Mumbai 's Shame

An inauspicious start to my blogging career, but uncontrollable anger has forced its way into words...

These are my thougths on last nights events :

This is an utter and complete failure of our entire system (sic).
Our govt’s priorities are completely warped.
Instead of spending our tax money on upgrading our police/defence infrastructure upto(modern) western standards , we rather be funding moon missions !

This country stinks of decadence and incompetence. The speed at which our law and defence forces reacted to the situation , made a group of gureilla trained terrorists look like trained marines.

And shame on our PM for addressing the country well over 15hours after the attacks.

We can’t hold a candle even to a emerging country like Thailand , leave alone China and Korea.

Today 25 terrorists have exposed our inefficient/incompetent and corrupt system to the entire world!

A system cannot be breached when one didn't even exsist.
Intelligence cannot fail when it 's foundation was weak to begin with.

The sad truth is, nothing will change . We will get attacked again if not in 6 weeks , then in 6 months, as there is no system to begin with.
The only thing we can pride ourselves on is the old adage :
“ Mumbai will bounce back...”
But at what cost and to what end ?
The question begs to be answered. . .

  1. What hope is there for a govt that is so impotent that it doesn't react when its own Parliament is attacked...

  4. Dhruv,

    I empathize. I do.

    but all the same....

Im of the opinion that "WE" ,
the stereotypical middle class urban voters that are part cynic and part dreamers, that despise our politicians and wish bombay was shanghai, that need to start doing our job.
here it comes.... the V word.

let me save you the trouble of arguing us unfortunately not being the "uneducated" majority. The FACT of the matter is ... that this is what we have to work with. A billion people, only a minority of which are educated.

Saying that the public needs education (unless you and I plan on quitting our day jobs , getting one at Pratham (pratham.org for those of you that ...ahem... really care for the state of affairs) and moving to Bilaspur) is still putting the reins in someone else's hands.

I mean lets VOTE first and THEN if it doesnt work we'll see what next. besides.. we're the educated ones ... if we dont come up with other ways what's the point of the education right?

but to get the urban voter to vote is easier than educating majority of a billion people.

All i know is that I havent the right or the balls to question our politicians coz I didnt pick them.
